Paediatrics:
Save a life, save a lifetime

When it comes to resuscitation and critical care, paediatric patients are less common than teens and adults.
But given the potential life-years saved, practitioners in the field of paediatrics make an especially far-reaching and meaningful impact, touching the lives of family members, friends and clinicians.
ZOLL is proud to take a leadership role in advancing paediatric resuscitation and critical care through the development of specialised technologies and support of paediatric resuscitation research.
ZOLL demonstrates its commitment
to paediatrics through:

Development of paediatric-specific devices and technologies such as monitor/defibrillators with paediatric modes, paediatric electrodes, paediatric AED algorithms, CPR feedback, and ventilators with infant/paediatric modes and more

Investments in paediatric
resuscitation research to drive
development of future lifesaving technologies

Advanced technology such as RescueNet® Live, which offers improved decision support and more effective patient care by enabling clinicians at receiving facilities to remotely view real-time data via a cellular or WiFi connection

Outreach to paediatric
communities through summits, training sessions, clinical support and other resources

Paediatric Resuscitation

Paediatric patients are not just little adults. They require solutions tailored to their unique needs.
Paediatric resuscitation is very different from adult resuscitation and it should be treated as such – because children need and deserve the same quality of care that adult patients routinely receive.

Adult AED algorithms may be inappropriate for paediatric patients, especially due to the frequency of tachycardic rhythms in paediatrics, which could be misinterpreted as shockable.
ZOLL’s integrated paediatric AED algorithm helps ensure safe treatment by analysing arrhythmias and recommending a shock only when appropriate for the child.

In addition to our unique algorithm, ZOLL offers monitoring and support tools that provide the highest possible quality of care to your smallest patients:
R Series®, X Series® Advanced, and ZOLL AED 3® offer a metronome to guide compression delivery and a paediatric setting that displays compression rate and depth.

OneStep™ paediatric electrodes
feature dual sensors designed to ensure accuracy with a range of compression techniques (e.g., encircling hands).

Real CPR Help® technology
displays information on depth and rate of compressions on the CPR Dashboard™.
Paediatric Monitoring

RescueNet Live
We understand how challenging it can be to care for your smallest patients. RescueNet® Live helps you optimise patient care with better decision support.
It offers visibility into real-time data such as waveforms, vitals, and trends so that clinicians at receiving facilities are better prepared to provide immediate and optimal care in every situation.
With RescueNet Live, providers have access to comprehensive patient information when it matters most. Reduce stress and ensure top-notch care with RescueNet Live.

Paediatric Data Management

Paediatric resuscitation is relatively uncommon, but when paediatric patients are in distress, emotions can run high.
ZOLL offers data management tools that help paediatric clinicians maintain focus on their patients, confident that critical case data is being monitored and collected.
RescueNet CodeWriter
An innovative tool that documents information such as dosages and timing, RescueNet® CodeWriter links this data directly to the defibrillator record. CodeWriter also integrates with the patient’s electronic health record so that all relevant information is easily accessible in one place.
RescueNet CaseReview
Paediatric codes can be stressful, making it challenging to remember every critical detail.
RescueNet® CaseReview streamlines data collection and unlocks powerful reporting features that let you continually monitor, trend, and improve your team’s performance. An easy-to-use PDF report generator, Performance Summary Reports, provides key information at a glance.
Ventilation

The Z Vent® portable ventilator is a lightweight, easy-to-use ventilator that meets the transport needs of infants and paediatric patients as well as adults.
Featuring energy-efficient technology with high-flow compression and oxygen systems, as well as low inspiratory and expiratory resistance, Z Vent helps you provide excellent care to patients weighing 5 kg and more.
It offers both invasive and non-invasive ventilation in the MRI suite, making it unique among transport ventilators. Disposable paediatric/infant circuits provide tidal volumes of 300 ml or less, while minimising CO2 rebreathing through the use of simple ISO connectors such as filters and HMEs that can be placed at any location in the circuit.
SIMV pressure support mode provides comfortable breaths without barotrauma or volutrauma, and two targeted breath options allow for volume- or pressure-targeted breaths. In addition to setting a new standard in safety and convenience, Z Vent weighs just 4.4 kg, so it’s easy to carry and transport in virtually any environment.
Surgical Support

ZOLL autoclavable internal handles are designed for use with a manually operated ZOLL defibrillator to defibrillate the heart during open chest procedures.
ZOLL provides internal handles with smaller spoon sizes for paediatric patients: 25 mm, 44 mm, and 51 mm. Two types of autoclavable internal handles are available:
Molded autoclavable internal handles with integrated electrode spoons: Made of surgical-quality stainless steel, these paddles are overmolded with durable plastic.
Autoclavable internal handles with integrated or removable paddles, with or without a discharge button located on the handle: When these internal handles are used, the R Series defibrillator can operate only in Manual mode, even if the unit supports Advisory mode. When an internal handle set is connected to the R Series, it automatically limits energy output to a maximum of 50 joules.

Paediatric Research

ZOLL is committed to
paediatric resuscitation
science.
As the donor of an unrestricted grant to the Paediatric Resuscitation Quality Collaborative, also known as pediRES-Q, ZOLL celebrates and supports the critical work paediatric clinicians are undertaking across the globe to improve care for this small but important group of patients.
pediRES-Q was launched in 2015 to build a pediatric clinical learning network.
Participating hospitals around the world submit data from paediatric resuscitation events to the pediRES-Q database.
The pediRES-Q team, led by principal investigator Vinay Nadkarni from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia,
uses this information to measure, analyse, publish and disseminate evidence-based CPR data, including chest compression rate, depth, and compression fraction. Participating sites have entered more than 2,600 cardiac events to date.1
In addition to researching and quantifying existing and novel interventions to improve survival rates,
the pediRES-Q collaborative also provides participating sites with a bundle of quality improvement (QI) tools and tracks their efficacy.
The pediRES-Q team continues to collect and analyse information, bringing clinicians together to share best practices and advance paediatric research.
Members of the collaborative have generated more than a dozen articles in peer-reviewed journals and submitted more than 30 different abstracts to scientific conferences.
ZOLL is proud to help elevate the efforts of the pediRES-Q collaborative
and is excited for the evidence-based, novel interventions that may arise from its research.
